Halloween Calendar Pieces

Two pieces from a Halloween Countdown Calendar.
Halloween has always been a favorite holiday! Maybe it's my sweet tooth...after Trick or Treating the kids would hide their Halloween stash when they went to school just in case I might be tempted. Wink, wink. Our house was always decorated for the month of October...which makes the calendars so appealing if you like experiencing the holiday fun all month long.

One of the things I enjoy about creating a project is finding ways to use materials in a unique way. Piece number 8 is actually metal that I embossed by running it through the Cuddlebug and rounding the corners with my Crop-a-Dile corner punch. Add a number rub-on and glitter foam star. A simple way to add a different medium besides paper is to look around your craft room. Cork bottle stoppers, a matchbox, flowers, or any number of items can create interest in your finished project.

Piece number 9 started with black glitter paper cut into my favorite shape with the Cricut, then layered with a rosette made from old book paper. The contrast of the vintage paper layered between two glitter elements gives it depth and the number 9 peeks out. The pumpkin was leftover from a border...never throw anything away! Vintage book papers can be incorporated into almost any project. Check your local thrift store or library book sale.
